it's a natural observation and not an accusation.. i didn't think Ian was trying to incite any bad blood.. i mean, it's just like you said, so happens that pingsters are interested in your lives, and just click to pong it -)

that's the way Pinging and Ponging works.. but yeah, i second most of the comments here, Ian is not making any accusations, just blogging an observation, which i happen to find true as well. -)

i'm always logged in, so i definitely add to the DK effect, cuz i just read whatever i find interesting, and maybe even if it's just DK or SimplyJean... i still click.. haha

peoples lives are more interesting than the social media gibberish i post anyways -)

<em>brian's last blog post..<a href='http://harmlessbananas.blogspot.com/2008/04/hillarious-korean-drummer-not-drama.html' rel="nofollow">Hillarious Korean Drummer (Not Drama)</a></em>

DK : First, i agree it was an accusation. But i don't think you call it groundless. Afterall Ian had made view heard based on observation from several angles. More so he caught you trying to kelong it with Jean. As someone who was mentioned in the article, i shared your pain. Nobody would like to be caught in an awkward situation like this one.

Ping.sg like any other communities will have elites showing up after a period of time but Ian had made a good meal of what or how it might had happened.

Dk, I don't think Ian was accusing everyone in the ping community. I think he was just stating his opinion from an outsider's point of view. In fact it think it is good that he raised it so issues can be brought to light about what outsiders might see.

Communities when are close knit, especially the regulars at Ping might become insular sometimes because a lot of conversations are held internally, and perhaps we assume that what the regular says may generalized to everyone.

In fact I think the points that Ian brought up could possibly highlight what other people (non regulars) think, like previously said. By this said, I think it is a good chance for you to "defend" the regulars for pong cheating... but I'm pretty sure Ian didn't mean to insinuate that regulars "cheat" by pinging each other's posts -- he was just stating an observation. Perhaps it came out wrong. I also believe that your case was transpired between jean and yourself was a joke. I think I know you both enough to say that...

Don't worry too much about the whole thing, this is small, shouldn't be blown up.

Hey DK, if you read Ian's post again, I don't think he's targetting you specifically even though he used you as an example.

Infact, many of the regular pingsters commented on his blog agreeing that the so called "DK effect" does exist and it's not necessarily a bad thing per se. In every community, there will be certain trends that are more prominent, and in this case, we know each other and we'll be more likely to read each other, thus giving people we know better a pong.

I don't think it's a bad thing, it's just how a community works. Perhaps Ian pointing out this trend might offend some people, but if the very pingsters he's talking about agree with him that this is indeed happening.. well we just have to take it as an insightful speculation?

question question!!

cobalt, do you read first or do you pong first? Let's say you pong and read at the same time, and going by the short except in ping.sg, it can be difficult to determine if the ping is good or not. So after reading if you think it isn't good, do you go back and unpong it?

I do agree with cobaltpaladin, entries that are nicely written or in my interest will deserve the pong... =)

I'm of the view that ping community pong the entries they like to read. Friends or no friends, if you are a lousy writer, I'm not going to click on your entry.

My point is somewhat similar to yours, the entries that reach the top 10 did not end up there because of group/clique pongs. They are in the top 10 because the ping community genuinely pong the entries.
