Tsunami on 22 July 2009? Zun bo?

Submitted by on April 15, 2009 – 7:24 PM24 Comments | 23 views

Not sure if you guys got an email claiming that there will be a Tsunami on 22 July 2009.

601ef1a0d1b0520b

The email mentioned that there is a Solar eclipse on 22 Jul which will cause earthquake and Tsunami. It also said that it predict that countries like Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak), Singapore, Maldives, Australia, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia and Philippines will be badly hit.

Since when did science advanced to the stage where we can predict Earthquake and Tsunami with such accuracy? One look and I knew that it is a hoax. And if you look at the picture, it shows the “Tsunami” at South China Sea, yet the text says that countries like Sri Lanka and India will be affected. WOW, you mean the “Tsunami” is so huge that if cross over the land mass at Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia to reach India? If that happens, the entire Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia will be wiped out.

You might as well say the sky is falling.

I can’t believe there are people that actually believe in this crap. It doesn’t take a Mensa member to see that this is clearly a hoax. But I’m surprised that it even appears on Stomp. Just when I thought the standard of Stomp can’t get any lower.

Luckily Channel News Asia did an article to tell everyone that the so called Tsunami on 22 July 2009 is a hoax.

Seriously lah, how many times must we remind everyone that Singapore is safe from Tsunami? NEA already spend 2 years and 1.3 million dollars in research and confirmed that there is a low probability of Singapore being affected by a tsunami.

geographically speaking, that’s actually possible. but probably very very very very slightly, since it has never happened this way before

    http://www.nsf.gov/news/mmg/media/images/global_seismicity_h.jpg

It could make the tides a few centimetres higher for the day.

and i just checked, the 2004 Tsunami had no relation with any eclipse, position of our solar system was Sun>Earth>Moon, and it wasn’t lining up

There’s nothing to worry about anyways, the islands at Philippines would soften the waves even if it happens

  • FoxTwo says:

Actually the sky can’t fall – it’s already on the ground. :) Yeah what we call “sky” is the Earth’s atmosphere. It starts from the ground.

  • xizor2000 says:

It MIGHT have been slightly more believable if it was talking about the general area below:

But even then there’s one major problem… does this area look like an earthquake zone to you? I would personally only worry if an asteroid the size of the one that wiped out the dinosaurs hit this particular area.

  • dk says:

yongwei: Few cm higher wave is nothing leh. Can’t even do surfing with that.

    Foxtwo: You got a point.

Xizor: Don’t give those hoax creator ideas. :P

  • AngGuKueh says:

Singapore may in low probability in getting hit by tsunami and NEA spend lot of research but i think safety and prepared come first is better. Maybe Singapore goverment don tell us lei scared we run to “JOHORE” lei ? :P

  • kmh2890 says:

It’s not true. Tsunamis are caused by large undersea earth movements (earthquakes and landslides), which cannot be predicted in advance. The solar eclipse on that day will not cause a tsunami. The difference in gravitational force on the earth as a result of the perfect alignment with the moon and sun is a tiny fraction of a percent, and there is no proven correlation between eclipses and earthquakes.

  • kmh2890 says:

On the asian side of the earth, there will be the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century, about 6 1/2 minutes. The waters will definitely be confused, but I don’t think think an eclipse will cause a tsunami.

  • kmh2890 says:

Guys….THIS IS NOT REAL!!! Gravitational pull from an eclipse CANNOT cause earthquakes! The origin of this “warning” is a blog with a stupid theory from a game programmer who has NO experience in this. He even says “I have absolutely no credibility to do this”. See the Snopes article on it….it is very informative and will put your fears to rest.

  • dk says:

kmh2890: Yeap, its obviously a hoax. Just can’t believe that some people actually falls for it.

  • anonymous says:

well… it is good if that so… but still feel scared O.o god power !

  • Marcus says:

Yes, lots of people believe ridiculous emails like this one.

Including my mom, who just warned me and told me to tell my friends. Oh mom…

  • John says:

Nobody can say it’s a hoax because it has not happened yet. It didn’t say that the solar eclipse caused the tsunami. It meant coincidentally it was during a solar eclipse. I find the only ridiculous part of the ‘warning’ is that India and Sri Lanka would be hit too, coz if it would, it would be a BIG tsunami!

Has anyone heard about Mr. Juseleeno’s predictions?

    http://www.worldamazingrecords.com/2008/09/future-predictions-2008-to-2026-by.html

He predicted a huge tsunami of about 30m high would hit roughly about the same area, supposed to happen in July 2008. Millions would perish in the Hainan island alone. Surely, this didn’t happen, but he could have missed the date by a year!

Remember Gioacchino Giuliani, the scientist who predicted the recent Italy earthquake but was ignored?

    http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Scientist_says_he_predicted_Italy_earthquake,_was_ignored

    We’ll just never know! Yet!

  • dk says:

John: But super duper slim chance lor. So slim that its almost impossible already.

  • Pondu says:

The tsunami site is actually India and Srilanka areas. South Srilanka is in a big risk.
    the site explains it all

  • Amulya says:

    I am still scared……

Anyways if it comes we will die.we of cos need to die one day.

  • Mark says:

Well, we never know … its good to be pre caution!

  • chijva says:

well….. all god’s will…. we just hope and pray that id didn’t hit us IF it happens… AMEN!

  • priya says:

    Hi Mr. Tsunami Generator,
you are making people life confuse, please start again you school education, are you scientist or magician,

  • kerouac says:

tsunami due to hit Australian east coast, 15th July, 2009!!! What do you think about that?!

  • Anita says:

If you recall the ad that says: “Low crime doesn’t mean no crime”,
the same applies here…. low probability doesn’t equate no probability.

  • mank1221 says:

  • uzma says:

we all ask 4 god that tsunami or solar ecclips should not come

  • liting says:

well i have to see it to believe it all has to be on fate who knows that it is real although they promised it will not be hit but just in case singapore is hit we should get ready first so what if it`s not true but we still get to get ready if a tsunami really come we should stay calm and think for a while but hopefully it would not come then singapore would be badly hit not just that other countries would be badly hit too so let`s pray and hope that a tsunami will not hit singapore so let`s check the news and see how it goes i will pray very very hard if singapore is hit by the tsunami thats it only worry about the eldery if they can`t swim and they will drown in fact the current is too strong for them to swim so lets hope that god will turn the bad luck and turn back to good luck maybe i have read in too much don`t you think well in order to stop its the traditional way pray go to the temple or surf the net for more details save the world for everybody! go singapore !

  • michael says:

    hope it doesn`t hit singapore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
