“I’m on page 73″ – So what?

I think a lot of people are still wondering what is page 73 and why did Dr Thio Su Mien, self proclaimed Feminist Mentor, bring out that point during her speech at Aware EOGM. The someone posted a youtube video of Dr Thio’s speech. You can see that its quite a messy scene.

According to The Straits Times, Dr Thio is referring to a 2007 book published by Aware on women’s movement in Singapore. In page 73, it pointed out that Dr Thio is the first woman dean of the Law Faculty (from 1969 to 1971) at the then University of Singapore.

I think she is trying to justify her self proclaimed title of Feminist Mentor. But seriously, Dr Thio, don’t you think you are trying a little too hard? No doubt you are the first Woman dean of the Law Faculty. No doubt you have achieved quite a bit on women’s movement in Singapore. But perhaps you forgot that respect need to be earned. And from the look of it, you certainly didn’t earn the respect of those at the Aware EOGM.

And seriously, so what if you have been mentioned on page 73 of Aware book in 2007? BIG DEAL AH. I’ve also been mentioned in page 2 of The New Paper in 2007. So what?
