Username on Facebook

Facebook is implementing username feature soon. FINALLY.

In the past, its hard to direct your friends to your facebook profile page, especially if you have a very common name. And giving the URL is near impossible. For example, my Facebook profile URL is http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=602325020. Nice number, but for someone who doesn’t even remember his sister’s mobile phone number, its impossible to remember the URL. The easiest method currently is to give someone the email address that you use to register Facebook. Surely there is a better way to share your facebook profile page with others.

So Facebook is finally implementing a username feature. With username, it will be easier to share your profile page. Your profile page URL will be changed from the long userid to your username. For example: if your username is username, your facebook profile page URL will be http://www.facebook.com/username. Isn’t that great?

The registration for Facebook username will start this coming Saturday, 13 June 2009 at 12:01 am EDT (Singapore time 12:01 noon, Saturday). I wonder if Facebook will crash at that timing or not. Anyway, I’ll definitely be infront of my computer bidding for a good username. I hope they allow 2 characters username. :)

Note: Do choose your username wisely. Once you have chosen your username, it will stick with you forever.
