The most beautiful city built by man is now fully covered with WIFI

Submitted by on July 13, 2009 – 12:30 PM4 Comments | 5 views

The Italian city of Venice has launched what is believed to be the most extensive, wireless internet system anywhere in Europe. Ten thousand kilometres of cables have been laid, establishing wi-fi hotspots just about everywhere in the city. The authorities spent around $15m building the system. No news about how reliable is the system yet but reports says that the speed is between 20 and 100 megabits per second, which is pretty good.

Residents of Venice get to use the WIFI for free while tourist just need to pays $7 per day to use it. And I’m seriously considering moving there now. Imagine myself surfing the net while taking a ride on the Gondola. OK, maybe not. Why waste the beautiful scenery?

JamCanSing: I think they are also finding ways to stop the city from sinking.

    Yay….. WIFI!!!

But one problem…. The scenery along the canal aint that interesting. I went with the idea of having a romantic ride, with the gondolier singing some italian songs. How wrong I was! There was no gondolier singing, the scenery of people’s house weren’t what I was expecting too. But Venice was indeed lovely! :p
