The pledge moment

Submitted by on August 9, 2009 – 8:22 PMOne Comment | 5 views

We, the citizens of Singapore
pledge ourselves as one united people,
regardless of race, language or religion,
to build a democratic society,
based on justice and equality,
so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and
progress for our nation.

It’s National Day, 8:22pm. This year’s NDP committee came up with an interesting idea. Get the whole Singapore, and those living oversea, to put down everything and recite the pledge together at 8:22pm. The Singapore Civil Defence Force will sound the island-wide Public Warning System to mark the moment. It would be an interesting sight to see people put down their stuff and recite the pledge in public.

But reciting the pledge in public at 8:22pm on National Day means nothing. Reciting the pledge every morning after flag raising means nothing too.

That’s why I recite the pledge in my heart thru my everyday action.
