10 things a PR person can do to make a Tech Blogger happy by Justin Lee
I couldn’t agree more with Justin when he blog about the 10 things a PR person can do to make a Tech Blogger happy. (Although I know he is referring to an event that we attended recently that made him very very happy)
One thing I want to add is that when planning for an event, always remember that the event should never be bigger than the product itself. The focus should always be on the product. Honestly, I don’t really care much about the event. Having a grand or fancy event with good food and drinks is just a bonus to me. Good to have but I can do without. If you have a great product, I don’t mind if you hold your event in a hawker centre. My interest is in the gadget that you are launching. And as a PR person, you should be looking for people who are more interested in your client’s product rather than the event itself.
Believe it or not, I once met up with a PR company at a small little coffee shop where they showed me their client’s latest product. And it was a great session because the guys know their stuff well and the product is great. Learnt a lot about the product and the company’s upcoming product.
And that is exactly what Justin mentioned in point #7, #8 and #10.
Over the past few years, I’ve attended countless events. And those that left a good impression are mostly the ones that did one or more items mentioned in Justin’s post. There are a few more things that a PR person can do to make a Tech Blogger happy. But you won’t go wrong with those 10 points. In fact, you don’t need to do all of them. Just a few will make us very happy.
If you are in the PR industry handling a Tech account, I suggest that you print out that blog entry and paste it on your cubical wall. And if you have a fantastic product, I really don’t mind meeting you at a hawker centre.

Haha! Thanks DK. Wow. Glad you share the same sentiments as myself. It is always good to spread the word and get the PR people to understand us just a little better.
