Nexus One 3G connectivity issue

Heard some users complaint that the Nexus One has some 3G connectivity issue. Actually I wasn’t surprised at all. Almost all Smartphone (or in this case, Google will say Superphone) have bugs for the first few version. The Nexus One is no exception.

Just got an email from Google Singapore’s PR agency regarding this issue. It seems like the APN wasn’t set automatically for M1 and Starhub users. That’s why users aren’t able to connect to 3G. The Nexus One should be able to auto-connect to Singtel 3G network. Sound weird. Don’t ask me why.

This issue can be easily solved by manually setting the APN setting. Below is the instructions from Google to set the APN.

1. Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.

2. Hit Menu button, create new APN.

3. Enter new APN settings.

For M1 customers:
- name: M1 Internet
- APN: sunsurf
- username: 65
- password: user123

For Starhub customers:
- name: Starhub Internet
- APN: shwapint
- username: [leave blank]
- password: [leave blank]

For SingTel customers: (Just in case)
- name: SingTel Internet
- APN: internet
- username: 65IDEAS (or blank)
- password: IDEAS (or blank)

4. Hit Menu button, save settings.

5. Select the new APN name, then hit the home button. Your 3G connection will shortly appear in the top bar.

Not sure if Nexus One users from other countries are experiencing similar issue. If you have problem connecting to 3G in your country, try finding your telco’s APN setting and set it manually. Let’s hope Google/HTC fix this problem in the next firmware update.

If you have any issues with your Nexus One, you should contact HTC Singapore. HTC is providing local support and repair services for Nexus One. (HTC Singapore Hotline 1-800-238-7788. 8am-8pm, Monday to Saturday.)
