First Look: Sony Ericsson Xperia X8

If you want me to summarize the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 in a few words, I would say the Sony Ericsson X8 is the Sony Ericsson X10 mini upsized. Or Sony Ericsson X10 medium. It is no surprise that Sony Ericsson release a phone with specs like the Xperia X8. They need a phone that covers the middle area between the Sony Ericsson X10 and X10 mini. I managed to get a 5 minutes sneak peak at the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 at the recent launch.

The Xperia X8 is a 3.0 inch (320×480 HVGA) Android 1.6 phone running on a 600MHz processor. 9.9 x 5.4 x 1.5cm and weighs 104g. It is using the same (or almost the same) user interface as the X10 mini with 4 easy access corners. Personally, I kinda like this simple to use interface by Sony Ericsson. The X8 has a phone memory of 128MB and a MicroSD slot which supports up to 16GB card (A 2GB MicroSD card is included)

Like most smartphones, the Xperia X8 has WIFI, Bluetooth and A-GPS. There is no mention of Digital Compass on the press release but I would presume it has (will update when I get confirmation). 3.5mm Audio Jack and a MicroUSB port for charging and data transfer. 3.2 megapixel camera WITHOUT autofocus.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is expected to hit the market in Q3 2010. Come in Pink/White, Dark Blue/White, Aqua Blue/White, Silver/White and White.

There is no news on when the Sony Ericsson X8 will be upgraded from Android 1.6 to 2.1 (or higher). But we do know from the press release that the Sony Ericsson X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro will get their Android 2.1 upgrade in Q3 2010.
