Google Instant – Just when you thought Googling can’t get any faster

Submitted by on September 10, 2010 – 4:56 PM2 Comments | 10 views

Just when you thought Googling can’t get any faster, Google decides to surprise us with an amazing improvement to their search engine. It’s call Google Instant. Basically, what Google Instant does is that it starts the search process the moment you start typing. So as you type the first character, search results are quickly displayed. As as you continue to type, Google Instant predict the rest of your query (in light gray text) before you finish typing. If the grey text shows what you wanted to search for, just simply stop typing and what you’re looking for is shown in the search results.

Google Instants search shows us that Google is actually able to search the web much faster than we type. That’s pretty amazing. Check out the video from Google.

Google Instant is going to change how people search for things online. I can already foresee SEO experts looking into how Google Instant works and coming up with methods that can make their websites appears more frequently when people are typing their search terms. Who knows, there might be a market for “instant search hijacking”.

With Google Instant, you don’t need to press the enter button to get your search results. That might take a bit of time for you to get used to. I’m too used to pressing the enter button after I finish typing my search term. In fact, there are a few occasion when I pressed the enter button and waited a few second before I discovered that the thing that I’m searching for is already on the screen.

Google Instant is not available in Google Singapore yet. Google Singapore will activate it in a few weeks time. But if you want to try it out, go to Google.com.

One question. What is going to happen to the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button now that we have Google Instant?
