Google Demo Slam

Google Demo Slam has been on going for almost 2 months. For the uninitiated, Google Demo Slam is a competition-based site that will pit two user created tech demo videos side by side. Users can vote for their favorites in weekly video competitions, and those votes will determine the Demo Slam Champ of the week.

It’s actually quite fun to see how people use Google technology in a creative way. You never know what new stuff you might learn.

Here’s one of my favorite.

Hey, I didn’t know you can actually “con” Google image search this way. Hmmm…. anyone want to try doing a Merlion?

How about a road trip using street view? Extreme voice search? Or just stealing the Google logo from the website?

Which is your favorite slam?

Unlock your door using Foursquare

Here’s a geeky thing to do. Check in to Foursquare to unlock your door.

Don’t worry. Not everyone who check in to the location can unlock the door. Only those Foursquare accounts on the white list can unlock the door when they check in to the location.

It’s actually fairly simple to make this. You need an electromagnetic door locks and a cheap computer that’s constantly connected to the internet to ping Foursquare. Plus you need to know how to put everything in place and programming skills to make use of Foursquare’s API. OK, on second thoughts it isn’t that easy. Luckily for us, the guys from are planning to release a DIY kit.

But although the idea is very geeky and cool, there are some problems. What if your state of the art smartphone run out of power? Or what if Foursquare is down for maintenance? Or your telco having a 3G data outage?

And checking into Foursquare is definitely slower than unlocking the door using a key. Perhaps we should stick to the traditional keys, RFID, NFC or Biometrics.

Last day to submit your entry for BlackBerry Curve 3G giveaway

I think its a Singapore trend to procrastinate. A good example is our income tax filing. Even though we are given ample time to do the filing, most people will procrastinate till the last few days to do their filing. And maybe hope that there is an extension in the deadline.

But I’m sorry to say that there is no extension of deadline for the BlackBerry Curve 3G giveaway. Today is the last day to submit your entry. You have until 2359hr tonight to email me. Who knows, your last minute entry might be the winning entry.

So send your entries now! Procrastinate your procrastination.

Nat King Cole – Christmas Song

Was walking down Orchard Road just now when I suddenly realize that Christmas is this weekend. It’s hard not to notice when you got a-cappella group singing under the beautiful Christmas lights.

Nat King Cole – Christmas Song

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping at your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like eskimos.
Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright.
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight.
They know that Santa’s on his way –
He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And ev’rymother’s child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.
and so I’m offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it’s been said many times,
Many ways: “Merry Christmas to you”

1500th day on Twitter

If my calculation is correct, today is my 1500th day on Twitter. Wow, its been that long already.

And if I knew Twitter is going to be such a big thing back then, I would have made my first Tweet something more meaningful than this.

Oh well, too bad. Can’t change it. So what is your first Tweet?
