What do you do on the night before you decide the future of your country?

What do you do on the night before you decide the future of your country? In the past, Singaporeans will attend rally by the political party that they support. But things are slightly different this year because of the cooling off day. There’s no rally or campaigning today. No lorry driving pass your house blasting pre-recorded message.

In fact, the neighborhood feels extra quiet and peaceful tonight.

I can’t help but wonder what are Singaporeans doing tonight before they head down to the polling station to decide the future. I know my dad is now playing Mahjong at his friend’s house. They will most likely be discussing about politics while shuffling the tiles. I asked on Twitter what is everyone doing tonight. Surprisingly, food seems to be the most common thing.

Aylwin is having Ice Cream to celebrate his 1st cooling-off day. Maybe also because it’s a warm night.
Adele is having durians, most likely with her family.
Edwin is thinking about getting Ice Cream, but haven’t made the move yet.
Shuzhen is buying writing instrument. I guess it’s not for tomorrow since pens are provided at the polling station.
And Zen is wondering what to eat. I hope he is also wondering who to vote tomorrow too.

So what am I doing on the night before I decide the future of our country?

I’m home earlier than usual. Watching the news and political broadcast on TV. At the same time, I’m reading news from online. Facebook, Twitter, Blog and YouTube have been a great source of news during this election. And of course, I’m writing this blog entry. It’s been a long week for everyone. I’m somewhat glad that we will finally head down to the polling station tomorrow.

So what are you doing tonight? If you have some time to spare, why not check out Al Jazeera’s 101 East where they talks about this elections.

101 East: Singapore elections

You might be thinking…… Why am I asking this question? I don’t know. Something tells me that tomorrow might be an important day in the History of Singapore. It might be written in the history textbooks and be taught in school. Maybe one day, our children might ask us, what were we doing on that day when Singapore decides on our future.
