I’m sure by now, most people have heard the Fun Pack Song for National Day Parade 2011. Yes, the song sang in the tune of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.
If you haven’t heard the song, check out the YouTube link. (They disabled embedding) WARNING: It’s pretty bad. Watch at your own risk. You have been warned.
I want Newater and I want a cold drink
You and me, let’s share a bit
I want a biscuit and I want a sweet
You and me, let’s share this treat
OK, this song is most likely played during the pre-parade segment where they try to warm up the audience and get them excited. We might not see it on TV cause some of the pre-parade segments aren’t broadcast. I do remember some of the pre-parade segment in the past are kinda lame and crappy. But this one is ultimate. It is so bad that it garnered more than 6000 dislikes on Youtube channel within a few days.
Whoever approved this song needs to be tied to a live firing range targeting board and let the entire Singapore population shoot them with SAR21. What were they thinking? it is horrible. So bad that it automatically gets categorized in the same group as the MDA Rap and YOG Cheer.
And you might think maybe the song writer is lousy and wrote a crappy lyrics. But hey, the lyrics is written by Haresh Sharma, the same person who wrote this year’s NDP theme song, In a Heartbeat.
Good thing for everyone, the NDP 2011 organising committee discovered that they only applied for the rights to perform the song. They don’t have the rights to edit the song. So we might not see this song in NDP 2011 eventually. So please NDP 2011 committee, please don’t reapply for permit to play an edited version of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance. Just drop the song from the lineup and put something else.
I’m sure they are listening to the feedback on their Facebook wall.
Update: The YouTube video has been taken down due to a copyright claim by Sony ATV Publishing. FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN MY LIFE, I’m actually thankful for copyrights act.
Update 2: The NDP 2011 organising committee has decided to remove the Fun Pack song from NDP.
Update 3: Lady Gaga says that the Fun Pack Song is wonderful.
I think it’s great. I think any time anyone wants to use music to support culture I think it’s great…. I love it when my fans make videos and change the lyrics to the songs, everything means (something) different to them. And it seems fine for children, so it’s great.
