Fake Apple Store in China

Here’s an interesting story that’s been spreading on the internet for the past few days. A blogger spotted an Apple Store in Kunming, China.

Nothing special right? But hey, when did Apple open an Apple store in Kunming? Well, they didn’t. It’s a fake. Or what they call “shanzhai” in China. According to Apple, there’s only 4 genuine Apple Stores in Beijing and Shanghai. They didn’t open any Apple store in Kunming.

I really respect some of the folks in China that has the talent of creating fake products. From fake eggs, fake meat buns to fake gadgets like iPhone. There seems to be nothing that they can’t fake. But the best has got to be the people behind this fake Apple Store. Like that also can fake.

It’s pretty well done too. The blue colour T-Shirt for employees. Spiral staircase. Beautiful product photos hanging on the walls. Large table with Apple products for customers to try out. Hey, this might be able to fool a lot of people. But there’s some minor flaws.

The Apple Store logo. You might remember seeing similar sign that says “Premium Apple Reseller”. But you won’t see that in an original Apple store by Apple. And you definitely won’t see typos like “Apple Stoer”.

But luckily for everyone, the fake Apple Store is selling real Apple products. It would be damn funny if the fake Apple store is also selling fake Apple products.

After the news went out, Reuters reports that angry customers has been demanding refunds at the store. Here’s the part I don’t really understand. Why are there people demanding refund? The products are real right? So unless they bought the products at a higher price compared to other resellers, I don’t think there is a need for a refund. Right?

Anyway, I think Apple will most likely shut down these fake “Apple Stoer” soon. If you are in Kunming, visit them before they are gone.

Google removing corporate pages on Google Plus (for now)

When Google launched Google Plus, it is no surprise that companies want to join the community and maybe Hangout together. But according to Google Plus Names Policy, companies and products are not allowed to have an account in Google Plus. Not yet.

Over the past few days, Google has been removing several big brands and companies from Google Plus.

I’m pretty sure Google is looking at how to implement company page into Google Plus. I can totally understand why they are blocking companies from setting up business on Google Plus. Google is not ready yet. And it will be good for Google to continue to block them until they are ready.

And I’m actually quite surprised that some social media “guru” are already offering courses on Google Plus – What It Can Do For Your Organization & How Best To Use It.

Eh, don’t bother lah. The answer for now is nothing. And nobody now what’s the future plans for companies on Google Plus.

Google Plus is still in the very early stage. I know a lot of people are comparing them with Facebook and saying Google Plus is missing a lot of features. True, Google Plus is missing a lot of features. But bear in mind that Google Plus is still in beta and is still invite only. (Although it’s very easy to get an invite nowadays) Give Google Plus a few more months to experiment with the current beta users and make changes to the system.

I personally think that it is good that Google take things slowly. They messed up previously on Google Buzz. I hope they don’t mess up on Google Plus.

PS: But Google, if you are reading this, PLEASE roll out Google Plus iOS App to rest of the world. It’s just dumb and stupid to release the app but restrict it to just US App Store.

Goodbye 小白

I don’t really know what to call my dad’s car. Never thought of naming it for the past 5 years. Since it’s white colour, I guess I’ll just call it 小白 (Little White) for this blog entry.

Anyway, 小白’s Certificate of Entitlement (COE) is coming to an end soon and we have decided not to extend it. The car is getting old anyway. Instead, a neighbor has offered to buy 小白 and extend it’s COE. So 小白 will have a new owner by the end of this month. This is not the first time 小白 had a new owner. I think we are his 3rd owner.

Perhaps I should take this blog entry to thank 小白 for all the great time together. Thank you for all the convenience. You help me get from point A to point B quickly for most of time. (the only exception is when there’s a traffic jam, but that’s totally not your fault) You make it possible for me and my friends to explore all the interesting and ulu places in Singapore. You company me on a joy ride when I’m moody. You help me deliver large and heavy things. You were always there for me when I’m chasing the girl of my dreams. (haha) You are the best wingman a man can ever have.

Thank you for all the good time together. Good bye my old friend, you will be missed.

We will most likely not be getting a new car anytime soon. Maybe we will get one in the future. But I’ll always remember you and the memories we had together.

Super Star
La La La La La La La La La La
愈騎愈快愈爽我想欲唱歌

頭腦底飛 身軀底顫
風底吹我 心底流汗
是按怎那會這爽 要了解我的感覺
這時陣上好作陣來去軋車

I Wish You Love

Rachael Yamagata – I Wish You Love

I wish you bluebirds in the spring
To give your heart a song to sing
I wish you health
And more than wealth
I wish you love

And in July some lemonade
To cool you in some leafy glade
I wish you health
And more than wealth
I wish you love

My breaking heart and I agree
That you and I could never be
So with my best
My very best
I set you free

I wish you shelter from the storm
A cozy fire to keep you warm
And most of all
When snowflakes fall
I wish you love

My breaking heart and I agree
That you and I could never be
So with my best
My very best
I set you free

I wish you shelter from the storm
A cozy fire to keep you warm
And most of all
When snowflakes fall
I wish you love

Disabling the inverted scrolling on Mac OS Lion

I’m surprised that I managed to download and install Mac OS Lion so quickly. Initially I was worried that my slow Broadband and heavy traffic at the server would take me days to upgrade. I’m surprised that I managed to do it within a couple of hours. And I’m now blogging on my MacBook Pro with the brand new Mac OS X Lion.

Not very used to some of the new features on Mac OS Lion. The Mission Control needs a while to get used to. But one feature that I totally cannot stand is the inverted scrolling on Mac OS Lion.

I know Apple wants to make Mac OS look and feel like iOS. But the inverted scrolling just doesn’t make sense. I disabled it within 5 minutes of using Lion.

In the past, when you move 2 fingers up or down the touchpad, the page scroll in the same direction.

But on Mac OS Lion, the default scrolling is inverted. Which means if you move 2 fingers down, the page scroll upwards. When you move 2 finger up, the page scroll downwards.

This totally make sense on the iOS because your fingers are interacting directly on the screen. The screen follows your finger on the screen. But it just doesn’t make sense on a touchpad. When you scroll downwards on a touchpad, you expect the screen to go down, not up!

Luckily for everyone, you can disable this in the settings. Just go to System Preference / Trackpad / Scroll & Zoom. Uncheck the “Scroll Direction: natural” setting.

And I can’t believe Apple call this “natural”. It’s totally not natural at all.
