Looking at the Rachelle Ann Beguia saga, I can’t help feeling that something is wrong.
For the uninitiated, Rachelle Ann Beguia is a Filipino working in Singapore. She became infamous lately after she insulted Singaporeans when defending Penny Low for using her handphone during the National Anthem.
Her postings have been deleted and she has also apologised. But it did not appease the angry Singapore Netizen. It has gone so bad that even her employers, National Heart Centre Singapore, has apologized on her behalf and promise to conduct an official enquiry.
But here’s the weird thing about the whole entire saga. Why did Rachelle Ann Beguia, a non-Singaporean, defend Penny Low on Facebook? I looked at the things she said, it feels like the stuff people would say when they are bootlicking. Why would a non-Singaporean want to defend a Singapore Member of Parliament on Facebook? What benefit will she get?
Perhaps our pro-foreigner policies are gaining support from the foreigners and they support our Member of Parliament more than Singaporeans. If that is the case, wouldn’t it be scary? Our Member of Parliament and Ministers are supposed to be serving Singaporeans, not foreigners.
This whole entire incident is another wake up call for all Singaporeans. We really need to relook at our pro-foreigner policies. Just a couple of weeks ago, a China student made some racist remarks against Singaporeans. And this is happening now. How many more Wang Peng Fei and Rachelle Ann Beguia are there in Singapore? Should we hit the panic button now?
Something is seriously wrong.
Update: A man named Gay Chao Hui has stepped forward to claim responsibility for the remarks posted on Member of Parliament Penny Low’s Facebook page which criticised Singaporeans. He is the husband of Rachelle Ann Beguia. Hmmmmmm…… REALLY?
