Adobe “Sneak Peek” Videos

Remember the deblurring feature on Photoshop? That video was recorded by one of the audience at the recent MAX conference in Los Angeles. Well, Adobe just release the official video of the Deblurring feature and other interesting technology. Yes, you can finally see the video of the Deblurring feature on a clear video. Do check out that video. It’s pretty impressive.

Besides the Deblurring feature, the automatic synchronization of crowd sourced videos feature looks good too.

The sneaks are intended to give MAX conference attendees a look at future technologies. These technologies may, or may not, make it into future versions of Adobe products.

Image Deblurring – removing blurriness from digital photos caused by camera shake while the pictures were being taken

Local Layer Ordering – a new way for graphic designers to create layered compositions that better reflect the way real world objects act

InDesign Liquid Layout – using InDesign to create high quality magazines that automatically adapt layouts across devices and screen orientation

Near Field Communications in Adobe AIR – using Adobe AIR to create applications that communicate with the physical world

Automatic Synchronization of Crowd Sourced Videos – synchronizing video clips taken with different cameras and from different vantage points into a single immersive video

Reverse Debugging in Flash Builder – the ability to step backwards in time while debugging a Flash application to better find the root cause of bugs

RubbaDub – automatically replacing the dialog of a video clip with separately recorded audio with perfect synchronization

Pixel Nuggets – searching through a large library of images by identifying images that contain the same people, backgrounds, landmarks, etc.

Monocle – a new visual tool to help developers find and fix performance problems in Flash applications

Video Meshes – an entirely new way to edit videos, including the ability to create 3D fly-throughs of 2D videos and change focus and depth of field

GPU Parallelism – using a device’s graphic processing unit (GPU) to accelerate performance of general purpose computing

Online Scam: Free Starbucks $50 Gift Card

There’s another online scam going around Facebook now. The scammers are offering $50 Starbucks Gift Card after you click the Share button and say “I Love Starbucks!”. There are several variant hosted on different URL.

This is very similar to the Apple iPad giveaway scam few weeks ago. The biggest hint that this is a fake is the URL. It is very unlikely that Starbucks (or any big company) will do giveaway with a dodgy URL. And the logo is wrong too. That’s the old Starbucks logo.

Starbucks Singapore Facebook page also confirmed that they are not behind the giveaway.

I still don’t know what’s the motivation behind the scammers. Are they doing it for fun or did they managed to steal your personal information when you click on the share button. Anyone know?

Blackberry outage apology package

Blackberry had a nasty 3 day outage last week which affected almost worldwide. I think Singapore was unaffected. Or at least I didn’t see anyone in Singapore complaining that they were affected by the outage.

Anyway, the service has been restored worldwide and RIM has just announced their apology package. Beginning this coming Wednesday (19 October 2011), Blackberry users around the world will be able to download a selection of premium apps from the BlackBerry App World for free. The offer will be available until end of the year.

The selections over this period will include the following (with more to come):

SIMS 3 – Electronic Arts
Bejeweled – Electronic Arts
N.O.V.A. – Gameloft
Texas Hold’em Poker 2 – Gameloft
Bubble Bash 2 – Gameloft
Photo Editor Ultimate – Ice Cold Apps Pro –
iSpeech Translator Pro –
Drive Enterprise –
Nobex Radio Premium – Nobex
Shazam Encore – Shazam
Vlingo Plus: Virtual Assistant – Vlingo

The total value of the 12 apps is approximately US$100. RIM is also offering enterprise customers a month of technical support for free.

The list of apps are pretty attractive. Looking forward to getting Photo Editor Ultimate, SIMS 3, Bejeweled and Shazam Encore.

What do you think? For those who were affected by the outage, is this apology package good enough for you?

On a not so related note, CNN made a funny error last week during their Blackberry service outage coverage.

Ya, I’m sure Luke was also having some problems sending out email from his Blackberry in Tatooine.

Namecard holder

Feeling a bit moody over the weekend because I lost my namecard holder last Friday evening. I think I lost it on the cab on my way home.

I’m not a careless person. I seldom lose my stuff when I’m outside. I always have an habit of checking before leaving the table or getting off a cab. Which makes me wonder how did I actually lose it. Maybe cause I was carrying too many stuff home that night. Or maybe I drank a bit too much. Or maybe I’m just tired. Whatever it is, its gone now.

I tried calling the Taxi company to see if they have my namecard holder at their lost and found department. I even have the taxi number since I got a receipt. The operator put me on hold for more than 10 minutes and the line got disconnected before she could tell me if they have my namecard holder. Personally, I don’t know why they need to put me on hold for so long. I’ve already given them the taxi number. Why can’t they get my contact number and get back to me after the driver reply to their call?

I wanted to call them again. But decide not to trouble them too much. Besides, I doubt they found it. If they found it, they would have called me since 50% of the namecards inside belongs to me and I have my contact number on it.

It’s actually a very simple namecard holder. Pretty cheap too. But I’m just feeling kinda moody because it has been with me for almost 3 years. I bought it when I started at Blog2u. The namecard holder has been with me through countless of events and networking session. Kinda sad that it’s lost just like that due to my carelessness.

And the worst thing is, I don’t even have a photo of it. Sigh…..
