Nat King Cole – The Christmas Song

One of my fave Christmas song….

Nat King Cole – The Christmas Song

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping at your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir,
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe,
Help to make the season bright,
Tiny tots with their eyes all a-glow,
Will find it hard to sleep tonight.

They know that Santa’s on his way
He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh,
And every mother’s child is gonna spy,
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.

And so I’m offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although it’s been said
Many times, Many ways
Merry Christmas to you.

And so I’m offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although it’s been said
Many times, Many ways
Merry Christmas to you.

Twine: connecting sensors to the internet easily

Saw this interesting gadget call Twine on Kickstarter recently.

Twine is a durable 2.5″ square that provides WiFi connectivity, internal temperature sensor, internal accelerometer, magnetic switch, moisture sensor and a breakout board for analog or digital input. Two AAA batteries is all it need to keep it running for months. Twine comes with an easy to use web app for programming the sensors and actions. You can make Twine send you a email or Tweet when the sensor is being triggered.

This is like my geek dream come true. There’s so many things you can do with Twine. Connect the magnet sensor to the door at your house to get alerts when someone enter/exit the house. Or the motion sensor on your washing machine so that you can be alerted when it reaches the spin cycle. Or put the moisture sensor in your pet’s litter box so that it alerts you when your pet has done its business.

OK, maybe the last example isn’t a good idea. But you get the point. The possibilities are limitless. And Twine makes it very easy to program the sensor. No need to learn any programming language. Everything is in plain english.

I feel like getting a couple of Twine and convert my house into an intelligent house.

Twine is currently on Kickstarter and have exceeded their target by more than 10 times. If you are interested, head over to the Kickstarter page by 3rd Jan 2012.

Modahaus Steady Stand

Here’s a great tool for those who takes lots of product shots from a table (like me).

One of the biggest problem with taking photos from a table is the shadow. The clear translucent Modahaus Steady Stand walls soften and diffuse incoming light helping eliminate harsh shadows and provide clean uncluttered reflections in shiny objects.

And you can also pair it with one of the Modahaus backdrops for nice studio like shots.

The Modahaus Steady Stand retails at $42.30 with free international shipping.

Hmmm…. is it too late for me to add this into my Christmas wishlist?

Foo Fighters caused tremors in Auckland

When they say Foo Fighters rock Auckland, they mean literally. According New Zealand’s GeoNet blog, 2 seismic stations in the Auckland GeoNet seismic network recorded tremor similar to volcanic activities. The cause of the tremor is traced to the Foo Fighters concert on 13 December 2011.

The shakes were most likely caused by the weight of the 50,000 fans dancing. The GeoNet’s recordings show lulls between songs and peaks in intensity during the songs. At it’s peak, the ground was shaking 3 times per second in a nice rhythmic motion.

It is actually no surprise if you have seen a Foo Fighters concert. Here’s the Foo Fighters singing one of my favorite songs.

Foo Fighters – Everlong

Anyway, the Foo Fighters aren’t the only group with such “superpower”. Similar tremors were also picked up by the equipments during the Rugby World Cup finals.

The Supreme Leader of North Korea is dead

Kim Jong Il, Supreme Leader of North Korea, is dead. North Korean state TV said today that Kim Jong Il died last Saturday at the age of 69.

Kim Jong Il is perhaps the most joked about dictator in the world. Perhaps it’s the secludedness of North Korea. Or the hairstyle. The world will have one less person to joke about. It’s been fun reading the Kim Jong Il looking at things blog and all the funny sketches by Team America.

All the comedians will miss Kim Jong Il and the materials he provides.

Jokes aside, I hope whoever takes over him (most likely his son Kim Jong Un) will end the Korean war and open up North Korea to the world. Yes, in case you didn’t know, North Korea and South Korea are still at war. They had a cease fire since 1953.

Feel sorry for the people living in North Korea. The country is in a big mess.
