XQD Memory Card

When I first read about the XQD Memory Card that was launched together with the Nikon 4D, the first thing that comes to my mind was: “OH NO! Not another Memory Card format.” But the XQD is not just a new format. It might replace the aging CompactFlash Card format.

Based around the PCI Express specifications, the XQD Memory Card allows write speeds of 125MB/sec. Based on a test by Sony, the Nikon 4D can record up to 100 frames in RAW format in continuous shooting mode using the XQD Memory Card.

But there’s no need to hurry to buy XQD Memory Card. Right now, only Nikon 4D is using XQD Memory Card. Sony is the only maker of XQD. Other memory cards makers like Sandisk, Lexar, and Kingston have no plans to produce XQD cards yet.

The 16GB XQD card cost US$129.99 and the 32GB XQD card cost US$229.99. Sony will also be releasing a USB 3.0 XQD Card Reader for fast downloading to computer.

Microsoft unveil new logo for Windows 8

Microsoft just published a blog entry unveiling the new logo for the upcoming Windows 8.

The new logo received mixed reactions. Some like it while other call it the Microsoft’s GAP moment. If you don’t remember, the clothing company GAP did a logo redesign back in 2010 and received huge public outcry. The company eventually revert to its original logo after a week.

Don’t think there will be a huge outcry over this new Windows 8 logo. But personally, I’m not a fan of it. The design looks ok. It’s the colour. Don’t understand why must it be just one colour when we are so used to the 4 colours on the Windows logo. Interestingly, the new Windows 8 logo looks kinda Windows 1.0 logo. Somehow the new logo makes me feel that we are taking a step backwards instead of forward with the new Windows 8.

Oh well, maybe it is just me. Anyway, do check out Microsoft’s blog post where they did a good summary of all the old Windows Logo.

I think I still prefer Windows XP logo the most.

Optimus Prime and Bumblebee in Singapore

With the Transformers Cybertron Convention coming to Singapore next month, Optimus Prime and his trusted lieutenant, Bumblebee, are doing a site recce now to make sure that the Autobot (and some Decepticon) can get used to the food and culture here.

Optimus Prime and Bumblebee just visited Old Airport Hawker Centre this morning to try out local breakfast like Kaya Toast and You Tiao. From the picture, it seems like Optimus Prime likes You Tiao.

Optimus Prime and Bumblebee will also be checking out other places in Singapore later today (17 Feb 2012). Sources says that they will be visiting Maxwell Road Food Centre from 12:45pm to 1:15pm today to try out Chicken Rice.

Then from 2 to 3pm, the 2 Autobots will be visiting Chinatown (Pagoda St/ Smith St/ Temple St) and take a Trishaw Ride around Eu Tong Sen Street and New Bridge Road. (Why can’t they transform and tour those places instead?) Lastly, they will be at Raffles Place (Outside Chevron House) from 3.45pm to 4.15pm to see the working environment of Singaporeans.

Do check them out if you are around these area today.

Facebook Parenting

Daughter post on Facebook note which is disrespectful towards her parents thinking that she has blocked his dad from viewing the entry. But she didn’t and her dad is angry after reading the note. So instead of just grounding her, he did this YouTube video and posted it on her Facebook wall for all her friends to see. And the video went viral.

If you don’t have time to watch the entire video, just scroll to the 7 minute mark.

Do not try this at home.

After watching this video, I’m so glad that my dad isn’t tech savvy and possession of gun is illegal in Singapore.

PS: Some people were saying that this is a staged video. I don’t think so. But he sure is getting some media attention (although he refuse to be interviewed) and I guess he is earning some money from YouTube. Enough to buy a few more laptop. Or guns.

Porn is moving to .XXX by Saatchi

Here’s an interesting series of advertisements to promote the new .XXX Top Level Domain. The campaign is done by M&C Saatchi.

The creative plays on the idea that porn is literally “moving” location. The removal men are physically moving the female performer from the set of an adult movie in a suggestive manner.

Cool idea.

Warning: Might not be safe for work at some places.
