OK, Apple announced the new iPad today. It’s not called the iPad 3 or iPad HD. The new iPad is going to be called iPad. Simple as that. It looks almost the same as the iPad 2 but slightly thicker. The iPad 2 is 8.8mm thick while the new iPad is 9.4mm. The new iPad is 662g, just 49g heavier than iPad 2. Well, I guess it will be hard to keep the form factor with all the new things Apple is throwing in.
The new features on the iPad includes Retina display (2048 x 1536 resolution), a 5-megapixel rear camera capable of 1080p video, a faster A5X chip, voice dictation and LTE. Yeap, Apple is putting the LTE into the new iPad. But don’t worry if LTE isn’t ready in your country. It can still support 3G. The new iPad has 10 hours of battery life (9 hours on 4G).
Oh and don’t worry, the home button is still around.
And here’s the good news. Singapore is getting the new iPad on 16 March 2012. We are the first batch of countries to get the new iPad. And since we are on GMT + 8 timezone, we will be getting it earlier than most people.
