Goodbye East Coast Park McDonalds

I guess most of you know that Marine Cove Recreation Centre is closing down. Oh, you don’t know where is Marine Cove Recreation Centre? That’s where the East Coast Park McDonalds is.

It’s kinda sad to see the place close down. I guess every Singaporean will miss that place once it is gone. It was like the “Central of East Coast Park”. The most popular place to go if you are going to the beach. Most people go there because of the McDonalds. It’s like one of the most popular McDonalds in Singapore. Whenever we have chalet at ECP during Secondary and Polytechnic days, we will definitely walk to ECP McDonalds in the morning just for breakfast. It is the first McDonalds in Singapore to have a Drive Thru. And it even have the only Skate Thru counter for customers on rollerblades. How cool is that? I still remember the occasional late supper or early breakfast there since it is 24 hours. Taking a break after a long walk or cycle down East Coast Park. Using the restroom to wash away the sands after visiting the beach. The place brings so much memories.

They used to have a big playground in the 80s. I don’t really remember playing at the playground but I’m sure I really love the place.

I’m going to miss East Coast Park McDonalds.

And it’s not just the McDonalds. I’m going to miss the whole Marine Cove Recreation Centre. I still remember visiting the arcade when I was young. The overpriced 7-11. And the push-carts selling all sort of funny stuff. There are several restaurants there too. I still remember Kenny Rogers used to have a branch there. Haha. And the Coffee Bean. It is a great place to chill out. Still remember spending one Christmas eve there eating/torturing Gingerbread man. Those were the happy days.

I’m sure everyone have fond memories of that place. Hey, it even made it into the number 134 of 550 things to do in Singapore on Lonely Planets. But sadly, the landlord of Marine Cove Recreation Centre, the National Parks Board, has decided to redevelop the area. As part of its overall plan to expand and improve park facilities throughout Singapore, NPark will be developing the area as a recreational green lung and providing easy access to the beach.

And so, Singapore will lose another landmark after today. I don’t know about you, but personally I feel that ECP will never be the same again without Marine Cove Recreation Centre. So what if you get easy access to the beach when the place no longer connects to the hearts? I rather not have improved beach facilities if it means taking away an iconic landmark. A landmark that all Singaporeans remember. A landmark where people go to during weekends (or sometimes even weekdays) to relax and enjoy.

And maybe it is because of the rapid developments in Singapore that make us all feel sentimental when we found out that another piece of our childhood memories is going to vanish.

Goodbye Marine Cove Recreation Centre. Goodbye ECP McDonalds. We will miss you.

Edelkrone Pocket DSLR Rig

Here’s a lightweight and elegant pocket rig for DSLR. Perfect for those doing videos with their DSLR. It’s call the Pocket Rig by Edelkrone.

The Pocket Rig is lightweight and compact. It’s just 567 grams and around the size of a battery grip. It’s easy to use too. You can deploy the shoulder support within seconds. If you ask me, the shoulder support kinda reminds me of a Heckler & Koch MP5 buttstock.

The Edelkrone Pocket DSLR Rig retails at US$299. If only they could compact the price tag too.
