Microsoft unveils new logo

Microsoft just unveiled a new logo today. It’s been 25 years since Microsoft updated their logo.

The logo has two components: the logotype and the symbol. The logotype is using the Segoe font which is the same font on other Microsoft products and marketing communications. The symbol is important in a world of digital motion and the squares of color are intended to express the company’s diverse portfolio of products.

The new logo looks pretty good. Very simple, classy and stylish in my opinion. The new logo is just in time for the launch of Windows 8 which is happening on 26 October.

Canon reaches 80 Million EF Lenses

Canon reports that they just produced the 80 Millionth EF Lenses on 3 August 2012. Yeap, there are 80 million EF Lenses out there.

Canon first started producing interchangeable EF lenses for Canon EOS-series AF (autofocus) single-lens reflex cameras in 1987 at the Utsunomiya Plant. Since then, the company has added three more production facilities at Taiwan, Malaysia and Oita in Japan.

Production of EF lenses surpassed the 10 million mark in 1995, doubling to 20 million units in 2001. After reaching the 30 million unit milestone in 2006, Canon celebrated the production of its 40 million lens in 2008. 50 million milestone was reached in 2009, followed by the 60 million mark in January 2011 and the 70 million mark in October the same year.

Mobile Phone Throwing World Championships 2012

It’s not a sports that will be included in the Olympics. Not even if Finland is hosting. But The Mobile Phone Throwing World Championships has been going on for 13 years in the town of Savonlinna, Finland.

The winner for this year’s Mobile Phone Throwing World Championships is 18 years old Ere Karjalainen from Finland. He set a new championship record of 101.46 meters.

I bet he is using the Indestructible Nokia 3310.

Reuters photographers covering the 2012 Olympics

Here’s an interesting video from Reuters on how their photographers cover the recent London 2012 Olympics.

The 100m Mens final started at 9:52pm and the first photo went out at 9:55pm, just 3 minutes after the start. Pretty amazing.

Oh, by the way, I saw an article on Peta Pixel saying that Canon setup a Professional Services office at the London 2012 Olympics. Check out the picture.

Nah, that’s not a Canon Professional Services office. That’s the Photographer’s heaven.
