GoDaddy apologizes for outage

Website hosting service Go Daddy was hit by a six-hour outage few days ago. Although a hacker group claimed that it was behind the outage, it seems like the outage is caused internally. According to Go Daddy, the service outage was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables.

Here’s the apology letter send out to all GoDaddy customers.

We owe you a big apology for the intermittent service outages we experienced on September 10 that may have impacted your website, your email and other Go Daddy services.

We let you down and we know it. We take our responsibilities — and the trust you place in us — very seriously. I cannot express how sorry I am to those of you who were inconvenienced.

The service outage was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables. Once the issues were identified, we took corrective actions to restore services for our customers and GoDaddy.com. We have implemented a series of immediate measures to fix the problem.

At no time was any sensitive customer information, including credit card data, passwords or names and addresses, compromised.

Throughout our history, we have provided 99.999% uptime in our DNS infrastructure. This is the level of performance we expect from ourselves. Monday, we fell short of these expectations. We have learned from this event and will use it to drive improvement in our services.

It’s an honor to serve you. As always, please call us 24/7 at 480-505-8877 — anytime, for any reason.

Sincerely,

Scott Wagner

Samsung GALAXY S III LTE coming to Singapore

After the announcement of the iPhone 5, a lot of people were comparing it with the Samsung GALAXY S III. The problem is that the GALAXY S III in Singapore isn’t the LTE version.

Well, not anymore. Samsung just announced (1 day after the iPhone 5 announcement) that the Samsung GALAXY S III LTE will be available in Singapore from end September. Yeap, 1 more LTE phone for Singaporeans to choose from.

The spec is the same as the non LTE version of GALAXY S III. You still get that huge 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED display. 8 Megapixel rear camera and 1.9 Megapixel front facing camera. And the best part is that the Samsung GALAXY S III LTE runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

But here’s the problem. The Samsung GALAXY S III was launch in late May and four months later there is an improved version that comes with LTE. Not sure how the GALAXY S III owners will feel.

The Samsung GALAXY S III LTE will retail at S$998 without line contract. Comes in Marble White and Titanium Grey.

Singapore getting iPhone 5 on 21 September 2012

Good news everyone! Singapore is now on the first tier and we will be getting the iPhone 5 on 21 September 2012.

Which means we might even get the iPhone 5 earlier than those in US because of timezone difference. Cool!

I won’t be talking much about the iPhone 5 specs since most blogs have already talked about it. But in short, a 4 inch screen, iOS 6, new 19 port connector, nano SIM and LTE. And yes, the LTE is compatible with the LTE standard that we are using in Singapore.

7.6mm thick and weighs 112g. The 3.5mm earphone jack has been moved to the bottom of the phone. The iPhone 5 comes with the new Apple EarPods. It took Apple 3 years to design these natural fit and increased durability earphones.

The iPhone 5 will comes in Black and White. The white version has a raw aluminum back while the black version has a black anodized backing. I think for the first time, most people will agree with me that the Black look nicer.

Google release YouTube app for iPhone

Google just released the official YouTube app for iPhone and iPod touch.

HOLD ON! Wait a minute. Isn’t there already a YouTube app pre-installed on the iPhone? Well, it turns out that the YouTube app won’t be included in iOS 6. Google and Apple didn’t renew the five-year licensing agreement. So when you buy the new iPhone (which will be announced later at 1am, 13 Sept Singapore time) or upgrade your iPhone to iOS 6, you will no longer see YouTube app pre-installed.

But in a way, this is actually something good for Google and all YouTube users. Google is now responsible for the development of the YouTube app and we can expect to see more updates. (Does anyone remember when was the last time the default YouTube app gets updated?) In fact, I’m already loving the new YouTube app by Google.

Unfortunately, the YouTube app is currently for iPhone and iPod Touch. iPad users will have to wait. Although you can still install the app on your iPad, the resolution is not so fantastic. But don’t worry. The iPad version will be released in the coming months. In the meantime, the mobile version works great too.

To download the YouTube app by Google, just go to the iOS Appstore and search for YouTube or click on this link.
