Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium now available in Singapore

According to Microsoft, there are more than 1 billion Microsoft Office users around the world. That means 1 in 7 people out there are using Office. Pretty impressive number.

I can’t help but wonder how many of them are using the latest version. After all, if you aren’t using the latest file format and features, the 10 year old Office 2003 will still serve you well.

And perhaps Microsoft recognised this and decided to do a subscription model for Office. Now instead of buying Office, you pay a subscription to get Microsoft Office. The benefit is that you will always get the latest version of Office. Microsoft has announced that they will upgrade Office 365 multiple times per year instead of the traditional three years release cycle. Subscribers will automatically get the new applications and upgrades when available such as the forthcoming Office applications for Mac and unannounced capabilities. No extra charges.

The Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium allows up to 5 PC or Macs and selected mobile devices and is great for households with multiple devices (or people with multiple devices like me). It comes with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, Access, 20GB SkyDrive storage (for main subscriber), 60 Skype world minutes/month and Office on Demand. All these at S$138 per year. That’s equal to just S$11.50 per month. Unfortunately, there isn’t any monthly subscription plans in Singapore. You’ll have to sign up for yearly plan.

Students in eligible institute of higher learning and eligible faculty and staff can also subscribe to Office 365 University. Allows up to 2 PC or Macs and selected mobile devices for 1 single user and cost only S$108 for 4 years. That’s just S$2.25 per month!

But for those who are not into subscription model, Microsoft is still offering Office 2013 for 1 PC user at $189 (Home & Student edition), $299 (Home & Business edition) and $549 (Professional edition).
