Samsung just unveiled a new lineup of advance internal solid state drives, the Samsung SSD 840 and 840 PRO Series.
The Samsung SSD 840 and 840 PRO Series support the SATA 6.0 gigabit-per-second (Gb/s) interface. The SSD 840 Series is more for general computing purposes while the advance 840 PRO Series is more for users who need more speed out of their SSD. Utilising flash memory data storage, both the SSD 840 and SSD 840 PRO Series come with an innovative MDX controller, ensuring fast performance and exceptional reliability regardless of data type. Since Samsung engineers almost all of its component in-house, they could fine-tune its hardware and software to offer outstanding reliability.
With the launch of this latest SSD Series, Samsung brings the very first 3-bit/cell consumer SSD to the market. While the 3-bit/cell MLC (Multi-Layer Cell) NAND has been around in low endurance, low performance consumer applications for years (USB flash drives, memory cards, some digital devices, etc.), this is the first time the technology has been applied to a high endurance, high performance application like SSDs.
The series also comes with a number of different business features, such as Worldwide Name (WWN), a unique identifier used in storage technologies, and an LED Indicator that makes it easy to integrate the SSD with server and storage systems. These features are coupled with an AES Encryption to facilitate the safeguarding of data against attack by encoding all information on the disk at the hardware level.
The Samsung SSD 840 and 840 PRO Series is now available at the following prices:
