ASUS RT-AC5300 router with 8 antennas

I always joke that average consumers who doesn’t know the difference between routers will go for the routers with the most external antennas. I guess someone in ASUS might have heard that joke and think that its a good idea. Introducing the ASUS RT-AC5300……

OK, jokes aside. The ASUS RT-AC5300 is a tri-band wireless router that delivers up to 1000Mbit/s on the 2.4GHz band and up to 2167Mbit/s on each of the two 5GHz bands, for a combined total of up to 5334Mbit/s. The 4 external antennas are in a four-transmit, four-receive (4T4R) configuration, giving a coverage of up to 500 square meters.

With Link Aggregation (802.11ad), you can combine two LAN ports into one superfast 2Gbit/s wired connection using two network cables.

Singapore launch date and pricing is not available yet. But this is definitely something worth looking out for.

Singapore’s General Election heats up on Twitter

Millions of Singaporeans will be going to the polling station on 11 September. As usual, the best way to get breaking news about the Singapore General Election is through Twitter with the hashtag #GE2015.

Since the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee report was released on 24 July and up to 31 August, there has been a 300% increase in elections-related conversation on Twitter (compared to the previous 39-day period from 14 June to 23 July). Over the past week alone (from 24-31 August), there have been over 52,000 elections-related conversations on Twitter with a spike in Tweets on 25 August when Parliament was dissolved and the writ of election issued. Check out the Twitter Reverb.

Hmmmm…. that avatar in the middle looks familiar. Where have I seen it before? Hmmm.

Workers’ Party tops the list for the most mentioned political party on Twitter. WP is 1.4 times more widely discussed than PAP.

Most Mentioned Political Parties
1. Workers’ Party (@wpsg)
2. People’s Action Party (@PAPSingapore)
3. The Reform Party (@thereformparty)
4. Singapore Democratic Party (@yourSDP)
5. National Solidarity Party (@nsp_sg)
6. Singaporeans First Party (@SFPSingapore)
7. Democratic Progressive Party (@dpp_sg)
8. Singapore Democratic Alliance
9. Singapore People’s Party (@sgpeoplesparty)
10. People’s Power Party (@PeoplesPowerSG)

It is no surprise that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is the most mentioned politician since he has been active on social media. PM Lee has 8 times more mention than WP’s leader Mr Low Thia Khiang. Newcomer He Ting Ru from the Workers’ Party has more mentions than veterans Ken Jeyaretnam, Chee Soon Juan and Sylvia Lim, reflecting her appeal to younger voters. It is also worth noting that some of the politicians on the most mentioned list do not have a Twitter account. But that doesn’t stop people from mentioning them on Twitter.

Most Mentioned Politicians
1. Lee Hsien Loong (@leehsienloong)
2. Lee Kuan Yew
3. Chiam See Tong
4. Low Thia Khiang
5. He Ting Ru (@hetingru)
6. Ken Jeyaretnam (@KenJeyaretnam)
7. Chee Soon Juan (@CheeSoonJuan)
8. Sylvia Lim (@sylvialimwp)
9. Lina Chiam (@linachiam)
10. Tan Jee Say (@JeeSayTan)

And the most shared election-related Tweet from 24-31 August came from PM Lee.

The Election just started. The best way to stay in touch with the latest news is on Twitter using the hashtag #GE2015.

PS: I personally prefer #SGElections. There are several countries also using #GE2015 for their elections. But unfortunately all the Government agencies and News outlets are using #GE2015.
