H&M is not giving out $500 gift card on Facebook

Some of you might have seen the Facebook contest where you just share a page, Type Thanks H&M and get a free $500 Gift Card from H&M. Well, sorry to break your heart but that’s a fake.

HMGiftCardHoax

This is not the first time we see something like this. I remember seeing a Starbucks and Apple version. The biggest giveaway is the URL. Most company won’t hold contest on a weird URL. They will most likely do it on their own website.

H&M also clarified on their Facebook page that this is not organised by the company.

HM

So please stop sharing that page on your Facebook. H&M is not giving out $500 gift card on Facebook.

IKEA recalls ANTILOP children chair

IKEA is recalling its popular ANTILOP high chair due to fall hazard. The children chair’s belt buckle can open unexpectedly when in use, creating a fall hazard. So far, there has been eight reports, including three resulting in minor injury when a child fell from the chair.

According to IKEA, only ANTILOP high chairs from supplier #17389 with production dates 0607-0911 (YYMM) are affected. The supplier number and production date are moulded into the underside of the seat.

Customers with the affected ANTILOP chairs can contact IKEA Customer Service at 6786 6868 or visit the Exchange and Returns Counter for a free replacement belt.

Online Scam: Free Starbucks $50 Gift Card

There’s another online scam going around Facebook now. The scammers are offering $50 Starbucks Gift Card after you click the Share button and say “I Love Starbucks!”. There are several variant hosted on different URL.

This is very similar to the Apple iPad giveaway scam few weeks ago. The biggest hint that this is a fake is the URL. It is very unlikely that Starbucks (or any big company) will do giveaway with a dodgy URL. And the logo is wrong too. That’s the old Starbucks logo.

Starbucks Singapore Facebook page also confirmed that they are not behind the giveaway.

I still don’t know what’s the motivation behind the scammers. Are they doing it for fun or did they managed to steal your personal information when you click on the share button. Anyone know?

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Singapore Flyer glowed pink for 2 1/2 hours on 1 Oct to mark the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The theme for this year is “Treasure the Breast Things in Life”.

To raise awareness of breast health, Estee Lauder Singapore is donating $32,500 to the Breast Cancer Foundation to provide 500 needy women aged 40 and above with free mammograms.

And since this is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, all screening mammography at polyclinics booked during October will cost only $20 each, down from the usual $50. (Singapore Cancer Society is subsidising $20 while the polyclinics will be subsidising $10)

Do you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Singapore? Of all cancers diagnosed among women in Singapore, almost 30% are breast cancers. More than 1400 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year and more than 300 die as a result of breast cancer each year. The risk of developing breast cancer increases with age.

Remember, early detection through regular screening mammograms saves lives.
