The inventor of Digital Camera, Eastman Kodak Co, announced on Thursday that they will stop making digital cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames. This news came weeks after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Kodak is expected to cut losses by about $100 million a year by exiting the digital camera market. Kodak will continue to produce retail-based photo kiosks, inkjet printers, online photo gallery and apps, and camera batteries and accessories. It will also try to license its EasyShare digital camera brand.

A Kodak moment of silence please…..

Sony recently announced the new Cyber-shot DSC-TX200V. The TX200V is a beautifully looking point and shoot camera with Sony’s Exmor R CMOS Sensor.

One of the best feature of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX200V is the auto focus speed. In na dimly lit environment, the TX200V is able to focus on subject at approximately 0.25 seconds. Under bright conditions, the auto focus is able to focus within 0.13 seconds. This is great for taking children photos.

The TX200V is equipped with GPS and Compass functions and also supports GPS log recording. Great for bringing the camera on a tour to map the places you visited on a map. The camera also has high resistance to water, dust and low temperatures.

The new Sony Cyber-shot TX200V, together with Cyber-Shot WX70 and Cyber-Shot WX50 will be available in Asia Pacific from March 2012.

Here’s a great tool for those who takes lots of product shots from a table (like me).

One of the biggest problem with taking photos from a table is the shadow. The clear translucent Modahaus Steady Stand walls soften and diffuse incoming light helping eliminate harsh shadows and provide clean uncluttered reflections in shiny objects.

And you can also pair it with one of the Modahaus backdrops for nice studio like shots.

The Modahaus Steady Stand retails at $42.30 with free international shipping.

Hmmm…. is it too late for me to add this into my Christmas wishlist?

The much awaited PowerShot S100 featuring the new DIGIC 5 image processor is now available in Singapore. It is the smallest camera to support RAW format shooting.

The PowerShot S100 has a high performance lens developed and manufactured using the same methods and expertise as Canon’s leading range of EF lenses. It has a maximum aperture of f/2.0. That’s pretty good for a camera this compact. 5X optical zoom and a integrated GPS unit that records location into a picture’s EXIF data.

The Canon PowerShot S100 is designed with the professional in mind as well as it offers full manual control for users who prefer to customize their own settings.

The Canon PowerShot S100 is now available at Singapore with a suggested retail price of S$699.

This looks like a story from some advertisement or movie. A guy found a Canon EOS 1000D while scuba diving in Deep Bay outside of Vancouver. The camera isn’t working anymore. But the SD card still work and he is able to retrieve about 50 photos.

The photos are mostly a family vacation. He is also able to tell that the owner has a wife, 2 year old daughter and is a fire fighter from British Columbia whose team won the Pacific Regional Firefit competition. From the EXIF data, he is also able to tell the photos were taken more than a year ago.

So with the help of Google Plus, they found the owner of the camera. Amazing but true.

In case you are wondering, the SD card is a Sandisk Extreme III. But then, memory cards are known to survive underwater.

The Photojojo iPhone Lens Dial is a aluminum case for iPhone 4 or 4S with three lenses: Wide Angle, Fisheye, and Telephoto. It is designed in such a way that it is easy to rotate the dial to change lenses.

The 0.7x Wide Angle lens is good for capturing wide scenery. 1.5x Telephoto lens helps you zoom into your subject without losing quality like digital zoom. And 0.33x Fisheye lens lets you be creative with your shots.

The Photojojo iPhone Lens Dial Case has two tripod mounts for portrait and landscape.

The Photojojo iPhone Lens Dial cost US$249 and is available here.

But wait a minute. 3 lens for $249? That’s kinda expensive. And the Photojojo iPhone Lens Dial is kinda bulky.

A better option will be the Olloclip which cost only US$69.99. Olloclip has the Fisheye and Wide Angle Lens. It does not have a telephoto lens but it have a macro lens. And if you need tripod mount, get a glif for US$20.

You can’t switch lenses as easy as the Photojojo iPhone Lens Dial. But the Olloclip + glif combo is much cheaper and compact.

I’m always amazed with people sending image capturing devices into space with weather balloon. So far, most of them were using small devices like mobile phones or flip cam. Except this 2 guys from Cygnus Project who decided to send a Nikon D300s into space.

YES, a freaking DSLR.

Check out their Flickr photostream.

Follow their Facebook page for more updates. It seems like they lost the camera during the 2nd launch. Hope they find it back soon.

PS: How I wish I could do something similar some day. But don’t think it’s possible in Singapore since we are surrounded by water.
