Nokia is now issuing its second software update for the Nokia Lumia 800. That’s pretty fast for a new phone like Lumia 800.
The new update includes enhancements to battery performance and better Wi-Fi connectivity.
Nokia Lumia 800 owners will get a new software update prompt on their phone over the next few weeks. This update will be delivered using the Microsoft Zune software (For Windows users) or Windows Phone 7 Connector (For Mac users). Just plug your Lumia 800 to your computer when you receive the new update notification.
It seems like the Nokia offices around the world are gearing up for huge parties and marketing campaigns for the Nokia Lumia 800 launch. Nokia UK just launched the Lumia 800 on 28 Nov and they invited deadmau5 to perform with a huge 3D projection.
Nokia will be unveiling the Lumia 800 here in Singapore next week. There’s some activities lined up over the weekend. Won’t be as amazing as deadmau5 and giant 3D projection. But still worth checking out…
The Nokia Lumia 800 has a 3.7 inch WVGA (800×480) AMOLED ClearBlack display. The screen is 0.2 inch smaller than the Nokia N9. This is most likely because some of the space are taken up by the Windows button. The phone weighs just 142g. It has a 1.4Ghz Single Core processor which is slightly faster than the N9. 16GB internal memory, 512mb program memory. Wifi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, 3.5mm audio jack and microUSB port. And like the Nokia N9, the Lumia 800 uses a micro SIM card instead of the usual SIM card. And the battery is non-user removable.
The Nokia Lumia 800 has a 8 megapixel autofocus Carl Zeiss camera capable of 720p HD video recording. Strangely, the Lumia 800 doesn’t have a front facing camera unlike the N9. Skype fans and camwhore lovers might want to take note of this.
Like the Nokia N9, the Lumia 800 feels very sturdy. The body is precision-machined from a single piece of polycarbonate and flows seamlessly into beautiful curved glass. Screen is made from scratch–resistant gorilla glass.
The Nokia Lumia 800 also doesn’t come with NFC. This is a bit strange as Nokia is one of the strongest supporter for NFC.
Nokia differente itself from the rest of the Windows Phone 7 makers by including some value added applications. For example Nokia Music where you can buy songs (14 million tracks in catalog). Nokia Drive offers turn by turn voice navigation on a beautiful 3D map.
The Nokia Lumia 800 is available in Black, Cyan and Magenta. We don’t have the pricing yet. But Nokia said that it will be launched in Singapore by end of 2011. OK Nokia, you got less than 1 1/2 months.
