HP Pavilion dv2

I was invited to attend the launch of HP Pavilion dv2 at Supperclub. The invite comes in a form of a pillow with the wording “PINCH YOURSELF! Because this is your exclusive invite to be the first to witness a dream made reality”. For a moment I thought HP is finally coming out with a super lightweight laptop with solar panel and can brew coffee with a touch of a button. But nope, that dream is not coming to reality yet. (And I don’t think it will come to reality anytime soon)
Instead HP launched a high performance but low cost laptop, the HP Pavilion dv2. The HP Pavilion dv2 positioned itself in the sweet spot between a netbook and a laptop with the help from the new AMD Athlon Neo processor. Unlike most netbooks, it has a 12 inch screen, yet it doesn’t cost as much as a normal laptop. We tried playing Blu-Ray movies on the device and it plays perfectly.
The HP Pavilion dv2 comes in 2 colours, Black and white. (Or HP calls it Espresso Black and Moonlight White) I must say that HP has talent in making low cost laptop looks expensive with the beautiful printed design on the casing. At 1.6k, you won’t mind bringing it along everywhere you go. There is no built-in optical drive, but it does comes with an external DVD writer. Singapore won’t be getting the Blu-Ray drive yet. Maybe in the near future when Blu-Ray demand in Singapore increase.
The keyboard is only 92% the normal size, so you might need a little practice to get used to it. The touchpad is a little too shiny to the extend that its almost like a mirror. The girls might love it though.
Overall, its a pretty good device. If you want more from a netbook but don’t have the budget for a laptop, the HP Pavilion dv2 is worth considering.
Thanks to Melissa from Edelman and HP for the invite.
Oh wait, I forgot to mention the most important thing. The HP Pavilion dv2 retails at S$1299! Now, that’s the dream that HP is talking about.
