First Look: Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

I have a chance to take a first look at the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc just before it is launched in Singapore.

The Xperia Arc is running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread with 1GHz Qualcomm processor. It has a huge 4.2 inch touchscreen. Here’s something interesting about the display. There’s no air gap between the display panel and the protective glass. This, together with Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine, gives the Xperia Arc a very beautiful display.

A photo of 2 phones playing the same video. No prize for guessing which phone has Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine.
The Xperia Arc is pretty light and slim. It weighs 117 grams and the thinnest part is just 8.7mm. The 8.1 megapixel camera comes equip with Sony Exmor R for mobile which enables the Xperia Arc to take good photos and videos even in low light conditions. HD 720p video recording. There’s a HDMI port for you to connect the Xperia Arc to TV or projector.

The form factor of this device is very interesting. As the name suggested, the back of the phone is in a arc shape. This arc makes it feels comfortable when holding the phone in portrait. The arc shape also gives you better grip when holding the Xperia Arc in landscape with both hands.

My only complain so far about the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is the camera button. It’s too small for my fingers. But judging from the thickness of the phone, there really isn’t anything much Sony Ericsson can do about it.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc comes in Midnight Blue and Misty Silver and will be available in Singapore by end Q1. Which means this few days lah. In fact, the 3 telcos are already accepting pre order as we speak.
