The world's first .xxx website

Good news to all porn lovers! The first .xxx website has been erected. Casting.xxx (Warning: NSFW) became the first porn website to use the vanity .xxx Top Level Domain.

This is actually a pre-launch marketing initiative by the .xxx domain manager ICM Registry aimed at drumming up interest in the new extension. ICM will begin registration for .xxx domain from 7 Sept 2011.
Come to think of it, the .xxx Top Level Domain isn’t a good idea at all. Porn companies already have their existing website and wouldn’t want to spend extra money to register another domain. Anti-pornography campaigners argued that the move legitimises the sex industry. Free speech advocates argued that the .xxx Top Level Domain will result in more censorship on the internet.
And the worst hit are the companies and brands that are not related to the porn industry. Companies can request ICM Registry to exclude their brands and trademarks from the .xxx domain under Sunrise B plan from 7 Sept to 28 Oct 2011. But they will need to pay ICM Registry a one time fee of around $200 – $300. Most big companies will be pressured to apply for the exclusion to avoid embrassement in the future.
And to make things worst, the exclusion is only for the exact world that you want to block. For example, a company called “CompanyA” can apply for the exclusion of CompanyA.xxx. But someone can still apply SexCompanyA.xxx or something with the word CompanyA in it. Someone can even register Company-A.xxx since it is not in the exclusion list.
Well, if this happen, companies can also dispute the domain. But it’s going to be a long and costly process.
So come to think of it, the only people that truly benefit from the .xxx Top Level Domain are the registar.
Oh, and FYI for those in Singapore: IP Mirror is the only accredited registrar in Singapore to register and manage .XXX domain.
