It is now opened to World Orchid Show Visitors from 14 – 20 November 2011 for preview before the entire attraction officially opens in June next year.

The Flower Dome is a 1.2 hectares conservatory that replicates cool dry conditions and will feature permanent displays of plants found in the Mediterranean and semi-arid tropical regions. The temperatures inside the conservatory are kept between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius. Chilled water pipes that are embedded on the ground to keep the ground cool. Warm air which rises are released through the automatic venting system.
The chilled water come from chillers powered by electricity generated from the burning of the garden’s horticultural waste. The Flower Dome can achieve at least 30% savings in energy consumption compared to conventional cooling in buildings.
