Lenovo IdeaCentre A720

The Lenovo IdeaCentre A720 was first unveiled at CES2012 and it got the CES Best of Show for the All in One category. I had the opportunity to play with it recently to understand why it deserve the award.

The Lenovo IdeaCentre A720 is a 27 inch All in One desktop. The base and hinge is just 24.5mm thick and according to Lenovo, it is the industry’s slimmest. But then, this is a desktop, so it doesn’t really matter how thin or light. You are not going to move it around much anyway. As long as it looks pretty while sitting on your desk. Any yes, The A720 does look pretty.

The IdeaCentre A720 uses the latest Quad Core Intel 3rd Generation Core i7 processor with NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M 2GB graphics. Built in 720p webcam, Bluetooth, WIFI, 6in1 card reader, USB2.0 and USB3.0 connectors. Like most All in One, the Lenovo IdeaCentre A720 is great for home entertainment system. It comes with a built in TV tuner, Blu-ray drive and HDMI in/out port and integrated stereo speakers supporting Dolby Home Theatre V4 audio enhancement. Hmmm….. How often do you see a All in One with HDMI in port and out port?

The IdeaCentre A720 hinge is specially designed so that the screen can be tilted from a straight up 90 degree angle to a -5 degree angle. I like it when the screen is parallel to the table. It sort of reminds me of the Microsoft Surface which unfortunately is priced beyond most average people’s budget. Maybe we can get a IdeaCentre A720 in place of a Microsoft Surface. And the best part about the IdeaCentre A720 is the 10 point multi-touch screen. Imagine playing Fruit Ninja on it with your friends. OH, did I mention that Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds are pre-installed.

Everything looks great on the Lenovo IdeaCentre A720 except for 1 small little thing. It is after all still running on Windows 7. Microsoft Windows 7 is great but not really the best OS for touchscreen interface. If you are not in a hurry to get a new computer, I would suggest you hold until Window 8 is release. But if you really need to get the Lenovo IdeaCentre A720 now, then I suggest you upgrade to Windows 8 as soon as it is available. Trust me, the IdeaCentre A720 with Windows 8 will be kickass.
