Merlion turns 40

Merlion, the mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish created by Singapore Tourism Board, celebrated its 40th birthday last Saturday. The Merlion was unveiled by then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew on 15 September 1972. The older folks will remember that the Merlion used to be located at the mouth of Singapore river before being moved to its current location in 2002 as the newly build Esplanade Bridge was blocking its view.
A special light show with pyrotechnics was put in place for the past few days to celebrate it’s 40th Birthday. Merlion never looked so pretty in the evening before.

Happy Birthday Merlion.
