The new Samsung Chromebook

We all know that Microsoft is launching Windows 8 this coming Friday and we can expect to see tons of Windows 8 devices. But Google refuse to let Microsoft dominate the new and decided to announce the new 3rd Generation Chromebook by Samsung.

The Chromebook runs on Google’s Chrome OS. 11.6 inch screen, 1.1kg, 1 USB3.0, 1 USB2.0, Bluetooth 3.0 and a HDMI port. It runs on Samsung Exynos 5 Dual Processor and has 6.5 hour battery life.
The Chromebook comes with 16GB of internal storage but Google is giving 100GB of Google Drive free for two years (Worth $120). Since the Chromebook is running Chrome OS, you don’t really need much local storage. Everything, including your data and apps, live in the cloud. Just login your Google ID on any Chromebook and it will looks as if it is yours.
But I guess the most attractive “feature” of the Chromebook is the price point. At just US$249 for WIFI version and US$330 for 3G version, I don’t mind getting one as my secondary laptop when I want to travel light. Unfortunately, the Chromebook is currently only available in US and UK. Let’s hope Google will bring it to the rest of the world soon.
