Attorney-General’s Chambers has commenced legal proceedings against cartoonist behind Demon-cratic Singapore

Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has commenced legal proceedings in the High Court against Leslie Chew Peng Ee for contempt of court. The 37 year old is the cartoonist behind the popular political satire comic series, Demon-cratic Singapore. According to AGC, Leslie Chew is accused of scandalising the judiciary in five comics published on the Facebook page.
The case will be heard at the High Court on 12 August 2013.
While I’m not a huge fan of Demon-cratic Singapore, I do feel that this case will set a precedent on the limit and boundary of satire writing in Singapore. Let’s watch this case closely.
