MDA banned The Breakfast Network from using Social Media sites

I thought the Broadcasting (Class Licence) Notification has no reach over social media platform like Facebook and Twitter. I was wrong. It covers anything on the “World Wide Web through the Internet”.
So yesterday, The Media Development Authority (MDA) issued a statement saying that The Breakfast Network cannot operate on other Internet platforms, including Facebook and Twitter. As long as Breakfast Network Pte Ltd remain active as a company, it cannot operate any iteration of www.breakfastnetwork.sg on other internet platform as that would contravene MDA’s registration requirement.
This is plain stupid. On one hand, MDA is creating lots of trouble for creditable sites like The Breakfast Network to operate. On the other hand, we have cesspool like The Real Singapore continue to spew nonsense and false news. Something is really wrong here.
Thank you MDA for killing the freedom of speech on the internet. I sincerely suggest you change your name to Media Destruction Authority. I think it describe your agency’s role better.

You can still communicate with Bertha Henson through her personal Facebook account or through her blog Bertha Harian until MDA force her to register under the Broadcasting (Class Licence) Notification. The broadly written Broadcasting (Class Licence) Notification covers both individuals and registered companies. So effectively, MDA can simply make Bertha Henson register under the Broadcasting (Class Licence) Notification as an individual and she will have to comply or shut down her blog, Facebook, Twitter and all Internet platform.
I don’t know about you but I think this is a perfect excuse for Internet censorship.
