Google acquires Boston Dynamics

This is interesting although it really didn’t come as a surprise. Andy Rubin has been directing Google’s robotics efforts ever since handing over the Android leadership to Sundar Pichai. So it is really no surprised that Google decided to acquire Boston Dynamics, the company behind those DARPA-related projects like WildCat/Cheetah, Atlas, Petman and Big Dog. You might have seen some of their YouTube videos.

No news on how much Google spend to acquire Boston Dynamics. Boston Dynamics will continue to honor its existing military contracts although Google apparently does not plan to proceed as a military contractor itself. We don’t know what Google is going to do with Boston Dynamics and I think it will take at least a few years before we finds out.

And yes, you can start making the Skynet reference now.
