HP sold Palm trademarks to Alcatel Onetouch

Palm has been dead for some time after HP purchased the company for $1.2 billion in 2010 and do nothing with it. Well, it seems like we might be seeing Palm in the market again soon. HP recently sold off the trademarks associated with Palm.
Palm.com website now points to a new domain call mynewpalm.com. If you go to the website now, it shows the familiar Orange Palm One logo together with a looping text that says “Coming soon” and “Smart Move”.
“Smart Move” is the slogan for Alcatel Onetouch, own by TCL Corporation, a Chinese multinational electronics company. It seems like Alcatel Onetouch is the new owner of the Palm trademark.
So far we are not sure what is Alcatel Onetouch planning to do with the Palm trademark. We also don’t know if the deal includes Palm’s software and patents. But the chances of seeing WebOS or PalmOS devices out in the market is still pretty slim. Most likely Alcatel Onetouch will be using the Palm trademark to enter markets like US.
