The folks behind the highly success Pebble watch are back with a new smart watch, the Pebble Time. The Pebble Time uses a color e-paper display which according to Pebble is able to provide 7 days worth of battery life like the current monochrome Pebble watches. The new color e-paper display is easy to read and always-on, perfect for displaying incoming notifications and your favorite watchface.
Pebble Time is 20% thinner than the original Pebble at just 9.5mm. Its ergonomic, curved design fits comfortably on either wrist and slides easily under dress shirts. The Pebble Time also comes with a microphone for taking notes or replying to messages by voice. Sending voice replies works with most major Android apps including SMS, Hangouts, Gmail, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp and hundreds more. For iOS users, voice replies are currently limited to Gmail notifications as Pebble are working to enable voice reply for more apps.
Pebble Time comes with a soft silicone band and will work with all standard 22mm watch bands. Knowing that people like personalizing their watches, all new Pebble watch bands now comes with a quick release pin which allows you to swap bands easily.
But perhaps the biggest change is the software level. Pebble Time will be running a new software that focus on providing relevant, at-a-glance information such as news, weather, travel updates and reminders. Pebble Time will show these updates when it thinks they are useful and allow users to take quick action. Oh, and existing Pebble and Pebble Steel watches will be able to upgrade to this new Timeline interface.
And the best part is, all existing Pebble apps and watch faces are compatible with Pebble Time. This means you’ll have more than 6,500 apps and watch faces to choose from when you receive your Pebble Time.
Pebble Time is now on Kickstarter. Simply pledge US$179 to receive a Pebble Time. Pebble Time is expected to starts shipping in May 2015.
