Singapore to Cease 2G Services from April 2017

The 3 local telcos in Singapore will be ending all 2G services with effect from 1 April 2017. This will apply to 2G voice, messaging and data services. According to IDA, there are 250,000 2G mobile users today. Singapore is not the first country to cease 2G services.
The spectrum currently used for 2G will be reused to provide faster, more advanced 3G and 4G services.
The ending of 2G services here in Singapore means that your old phones like Nokia 3310 and Motorola StarTAC will no longer be functioning after 1 April 2017. NSmen going back for reservist in non-camera phone camps might want to take note of this.
